The Opportunity

We are now looking for a Senior Investment Manager to join our Digital Infrastructure and Solutions team for a full-time, permanent position in Nairobi.

Digital Infrastructure and Solutions (DIS) is one of Finnfund’s focus sectors and the fastest growing sector within Finnfund’s investment function.

DIS sector investments have a strong impact in our target countries. We invest in commercially attractive high impact businesses within the emerging markets digital value chain, focusing on rural connectivity, improving existing infrastructure to enable high speed and affordable internet, and technologies that promote digital and financial inclusion. DIS team’s recent investments include various emerging markets high impact and fast-growing companies such as Cassava Technologies, WorldLink, Fibertime and Wave Mobile Money.


What you will be doing

As a Senior Investment Manager, you will be responsible for identifying, developing and executing new investment projects and managing stakeholder relations. Responsibilities include originating, developing, negotiating, and executing new investment opportunities in the DIS sector. Part of the role is to manage the existing investment portfolio with the team.

You will be working closely with investees, co-investors, financial advisors, and other stakeholders within the African investment community. You will play a key part in the development of the DIS investment pipeline and portfolio.

Internally you will be collaborating closely with other members of the investment team and with colleagues across Finnfund. A typical project team has members from our environment and social responsibility team, development impact team as well as from our legal affairs.


Key areas of responsibility include:
  • Originating and screening new investment opportunities and supporting the execution of investments.
  • Leading the project team throughout the entire investment cycle, including pre-investment evaluation, preparation of investment committee materials, negotiations, structuring, and documentation. Also, actively contributing to portfolio management and value creation.
  • Monitoring the development of digital infrastructure and technology sectors in Africa.
  • Actively participating in marketing of Finnfund and participating in relevant investment conferences, often as a speaker or panellist.
  • Building and maintaining relationships with investees, co-financers, and other stakeholders.
  • Developing internal skills and capabilities in digital infrastructure and solution space.

Who we are looking for

We are seeking an exceptional candidate with the following qualifications:
  • A university degree in a relevant field.
  • At least 7 years of professional experience in private equity/VC funds, investment banking, management consultancy, or a relevant corporate role within the telecom sector, with proven expertise in corporate finance.
  • Investment experience in the African private equity market.
  • Outstanding writing and communication skills in English are essential.
  • Fluency in additional languages and international investment experience are highly desirable.

A successful candidate for this position is a proactive, flexible, and independent worker with strong teamwork skills. We are looking for a candidate with strong communication and negotiation skills, who is social, results-oriented, and not afraid of challenges. The position requires some amount of travel in Finnfund’s target countries.
